September 25, 2008 Meeting Agenda:

The Magnolia Neighborhood Planning Council and the Friends of Ursula Judkins Viewpoint/Smith Cove is holding a Fall planning meeting on Thursday, September 23, 2008, at 6:30 PM, at the Magnolia United Church of Christ, 3555 West McGraw Street, in the Library.  Two topics will be covered at the meeting – A representative of the Navy/Forest City partnership, Michael Nanney be showing slides of the Admiral’s House, interior and exterior, and will give a presentation about the current preservation status of the Navy’s Admiral’s House property, located at Smith Cove, on the southeastern base of the Magnolia Bluff .

Currently the Navy is exploring whether to sell this historic Naval property to a private party, which may mean selling it to a developer.

A short documentary about Ursula Judkins, the namesake of the Viewpoint will also be screened, along with the community will be given an update regarding the development status of two of Magnolia’s premier view parks, Smith Cove Park and Ursula Judkins Viewpoint.

Come and share your vision and concerns about the disposition of the historic Magnolia Admiral’s House property, and come and find out about the public support and volunteer opportunities with the FRIENDS group.  The FRIENDS will be appointing at the meeting volunteers to serve on a community-based Steering Committee, the steering committee's purpose will be to recruit and work with volunteers for park viewshed work and other park design and development activities at the Ursula Judkins Viewpoint and Smith Cove Park.  Anyone interested in either of these topics, and/or interested in serving on the steering committee should plan on attending this meeting.

Participation on the committee requires attending a once-a-month meeting of the committee, participating in occasional online discussions with other committee and FRIENDS members about park design, development, and maintenance matters, and representing the interests of Magnolians in these parks at infrequent meetings with City of Seattle Parks Department and Department of Neighborhood representatives.

An approximate ten hours per month time commitment is anticipated.
