Tunnel Fact and Fictions

Changing WSDOT Handouts

March 2009 WSDOT handout is different from June 2009 handout  -  difference is the tunnel is now 2’ narrower than before.  What are the implications of this?  Reduced safety!

Must Read Library

Here’s the where the real WSDOT and SDOT denizens come to life.

Read about their machinations to bring about a tunnel.  Read their plans for manipulating public opinion, by picking and choosing how much to tell the public, when to dribble out information, when to withhold it.  Find out how tunneling industry reps and a local think tank (Discovery Institute-Cascadia) turned the tide for a tunnel, providing their low-ball version of the tunnel cost that was used to sell the public and then working with key WSDOT personnel, used it to convince the governor, who had previously preferred an aerial replacement, that a tunnel was the better choice.

Emails are from a public disclosure request that produced 1,430 internal communiqués between WSDOT and Parsons Brinkerhoff and their subcontractors, WSDOT and elected officials, and WSDOT to others.

Here are excerpted emails from the  cache that are grouped according to subject matter:
